History of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a major holiday celebrated by the majority of us in the United States. We give our thanks for what we are so fortunate to have, and we celebrate with a big feast at the end of the day. Why does this holiday exist you might ask, it exists for a historical reason taking place in the year 1621. When the pilgrims came over from Britain to the New World, they were in a rough shape for survival. Thankfully, the Indians, such as Squanto, showed them ways to survive in the land. Days of Thanksgiving were traditional in British culture, so as an effect, they carried their tradition with them. With the help of the natives who lived in the area, they were able to successfully carry on in the land and spread out through the Americas. The pilgrims were undeniably grateful for this achievement, and they decided to have a day of Thanksgiving to celebrate their success. This is why we today still carry on this tradition.
