Phobias

Having an irrational fear of something is usually considered an a phobia. Phobias come in many different fears and categories. A phobia of something is where a person is afraid to do or be around something even if it is a silly reason. Some symptoms of phobias are your heart will pound really fast, your speech is cut off and it doesn't let you talk easy, you loose your breathe some, you sweat, and you tremble and shake.Everyone has a phobia of many different things going from being afraid of the dark to being afraid of the heart. It's usually scary for kids when they have to face the cause of their fear.  Some of these phobias that people have are pretty serious and some just seem crazy but it's an actual fear of something. Some types of phobias are:

Acrophobia which is a fear of heights
Amaxophobia is where you're afraid of riding in cars
Brontophobia is the fear of thunder and lighting
Caligynephobia is a fear of beautiful women
Fears of crowds are known as Demophobia
Ecophobia is the fear of home
Harpaxophobia is the fear of being robbed
Hydrophobia is the fear of water or of rabies
If you have any type of anxiety then you are more than likely to be at risk for getting some sort of phobia. Some ways to get rid of your phobias is either to do that thing that you're afraid of. Or go to a counselor or therapist and talk to them about your fears. Phobias stop many many adults and children from doing something they love to do because of the fact that they are afraid of it.

5 fun ideas for summer

Summer is the time where everyone gets to together and enjoys their days off from school. From childhood to senior year, students and parents all look forward to spending days off soaking up sunlight. Sometimes during the long break you may run out of fun ideas to do and then catch yourself sitting inside your whole summer. Well here are 5 fun ideas that you could do during your summer.

1. Gather up a bunch of friends from school or around your neighborhood and start a campfire! Camp fires bring people together and you often meet new friends.

2. A great way to earn a tan and to enjoy the day is going out on a lake with a couple of friends. You could spend the day soaking up the sun laying on floats or you could go for a cold refreshing swim, the choice is yours.

3. Although some people may disagree or may not be attracted to such activities like these, have a paintball war with some buddies! A lot of stores are starting to sell paintball guns and it'd be easy to go out, buy a gun, gather up some friends, and then get payback on some of your friends!

4. Have a water balloon fight! This is one of the best things to do during the summer because not only do you get to spend time with friends but its competitive and it cools you off.

5. Spend the night with some friends you don't really ever talk to. You never know, some people aren't like they seem and spending a little extra time with them could start a friendship!

SVHS Baseball

Spring Valley baseball has wrapped up. All the athletes hate to see it go but ponder back into a pretty good season. With Sectionals the Timber wolves placed with a #1 seed which gave them a BY in the first round of the tournament.

The Timber wolves then played the loser of the Huntington Highlanders and the Midland Knights (Later determined, the loser was Huntington.) Spring Valley then played the Highlanders and won with a solid score of 9-2.

The day after was 2 of the best teams in the Sectionals going head to head. Midland and the Timber wolves. Going back and forth it ended in a 2-1 game with Midland coming out victorious. This then put the Timber wolves at a disadvantage because if they lost the next game they'll be knocked out and Midland would become Sectional Champions.

The next day the Timber wolves went into the next game playing Midland once again with their heads high looking for the victory at the end of the day. Battling back and forth Midland overthrew the Timber wolves near the end of the game and become Sectional champions ending the Timber wolves season.

2016 Summer Movies

With summer around the corner people are going to be wanting things to do and one thing that is constantly being updated are movies.

There are a lot of good and anticipated movies coming up and some of them include Captain America: Civil War (May 6), Money Monster (May 13), The Lobster (May 13), and High-Rise (May 13.)

Spider-Man (finally!) is the latest Marvel hero to join Cap and Iron Man as the two heroes try to settle their differences with kick-punching diplomacy. Nearly every Avenger is in the third Captain America movie, and early reviews for the film peg it as the summer's biggest, and best, blockbuster.

In Jodie Foster's third directorial effort, George Clooney stars as the flashy host of a fictional finance show "Money Monster," who's taken hostage on live TV by a viewer (Jack O'Connell) who lost all his money after a bad tip. Julia Roberts costars as Clooney's producer-girlfriend.

Okay, so this is gonna sound a little out there -- but consider it a welcomed departure from the usual summer movie fare. Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz play would-be lovers, living in a dystopian future where single people have 45 days to find a mate before they are turned into an animal. Yep, that's happening.

Tom Hiddleston stars in this surreal thriller as a doctor who moves into a state-of-the-art building and quickly gets caught up in a violent class struggle between the upper and lower floors. Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons costar in director Ben Wheatley's much-anticipated indie.

Tesla's new bioweapon defense mode

Does anyone ever wonder, "Would my car ever be safe from harmful pollution?" Well, According to Tesla, health risks from air pollution are "statistically" more hazardous than automotive collisions, because they lead to so many adverse health effects, so the automaker began work on the "high-efficiency particulate air" (HEPA) filter for Model X. The filter cleanses the incoming air of any pollen, bacteria, and pollution before they even enter the cabin air, as well as cleaning air that's already circulating within the car. “Health and safety are important to us,” says Tesla. “Just as we’ve designed Model S and Model X to avoid collisions or protect their occupants when one happens, we felt compelled to protect them against the statistically more relevant hazard of air pollution. Inspired by the air-filtration systems used in hospitals, clean rooms, and the space industry, we developed a HEPA filtration system capable of stripping the outside air of pollen, bacteria, and pollution before they enter the cabin and systematically scrubbing the air inside the cabin to eliminate any trace of these particles.”

IPhone SE

The IPhone SE was released into stores March 31. Its features are similar to the iPhone 5s and 6. The SE is available in gold, rose gold, space gray, and silver. The display screen is 4 inches long and it has a 12-megapixel camera which captures live photos. It also makes it easy to activate Siri by simply saying "Hey Siri" without having to pick up your phone.

The SE has faster wireless WiFi and LTE. This is Apple's first 4 inch phone screen since 2013. "The same exemplary precision found on the high-end iPhones is also found on the iPhone SE. At last, you don't have to feel that you're settling just to get a phone that's easier to handle. Handling the iPhone SE is a lovely affair, particularly if you're coming from the iPhone 6S Plus. It's dainty - cute, even - and although, obviously, it feels exactly as if you're handling the iPhone 5S, there's something extra novel about it now. It's no longer the norm; the 4-inch form factor is now the exception." - TechRadar

5 Dumb items to never get for Mother's Day

Things you should never buy your mother for Mother's Day...

1. Diet or fitness products- lets be honest your mother might threaten to hurt you for basically calling her fat.

2. Wrinkle cream-If you give her wrinkle cream, you’re telling her she’s both old and wrinkly, and that's not a good combination.

3. Weird/different purses- Your mom probably has enough purses, but if you do buy one make sure she thinks it's nice and likes it before you even buy it for her. My example.... >>>>
4. Kitchen appliances- Your mom cooks enough as it is, I don't believe that she would be up for another appliance she has to clean.
5. Body Pillows- Don't I repeat don't especially if your mom is single, your basically saying that you know she is lonely and has no one to hold but a pillow.

Amazing Life Hacks

There are some amazing things that you can do with items that are just laying around the house. Everything from a drier sheet to a rubber band can be useful doing household things. Most of the items in the list I'm about to share with you have a very low cost, and it also doesn't take much time to complete.  Here are 15 amazing "life hacks" that will be easy to do, saves money, and time.
    Image result for life hacks
  1. Before you throw away a post-it, run it between the keys on your keyboard to collect crumbs and dust.
  2. When you want to cross words out but you don't want them to be legible, instead of scribbling over them, write random letters and words over the original.
  3. When traveling, keep a bar of scented soap in the same compartment as your dirty laundry. It will keep your clothes smelling clean.
  4. Put a drier sheet in you shoes at night and they won't smell bad the morning after you put it in your shoes.
  5. Clear nail polish will stop a run in a pair of hose.
  6. In your garage, hang a tennis ball from the ceiling, over the spot where you car should stop when you are parking,
  7. The next time you have a sore throat, try marshmallows. The gelatin in marshmallow soothes it.
  8. If you have bad breath from garlic, eat a small bit of parsley, and that should get rid of the smell.
  9. Rust build-up? Try soaking whatever the rust is on in salt and vinegar over night. It should be good as new by morning.
  10. You can heal paper cuts and immediately stop the pain by rubbing chap-stick on it.
  11. To remove the stem on a strawberry, use a straw.
  12. A frozen, saturated sponge in a bag makes an icepack that drip all over the place when it melts.
  13. Put the straw through the tab of your pop to keep it from popping out of the can when you're trying to get a drink.
  14. Use unscented dental floss to cut things like cake, pumpkin rolls, and brownies.
  15. Put pancake mix in a ketchup bottle for easy pouring, and a no mess experience.
These are some great "life hacks" and some of them are pretty interesting. You can even come up with you own. There are many more than what I put on here. Down below are links to some of the best "life hacks" ever.

Affects of Hard Water on Hair

Most people don't know that hard water can greatly affect your hair. Hard water minerals bond to hair in the same way that conditioner does. It also finds its way beneath the surface layers. The more damaged the hair (heat, highlighting, permanent color, relaxer, permanent wave), the more minerals will bond to it, but minerals bond to little-damaged hair too. Hard water minerals can create stiffness, inflexibility, brittleness and breakage, dullness and friction in hair. Minerals that make your hair feel more stiff might reduce elasticity or at least flexibility and increase friction in your hair. Less-flexible hair is a cosmetic problem and makes hair products behave unpredictably. But friction in hair is something that can increase brittleness as hairs rub against each other, breaking off cuticles and creating tangles. Hard water build up tends to make hair feel dry or less soft (more rigid). It may cause hair to look dull and frizzy. Some hair may get a brassy or reddish discoloration or grayish. If there is a substantial amount iron in your water, orange shades tend to appear, especially in lighter-colored hair. Some people's hair will not grow past a certain length when their water is very hard because hair may become brittle with hard water accumulation. The only way to avoid this is by finding a shampoo to remove mineral build-up from your hair. For commercial products, a chelating shampoo is what you want to look for. Most will be labeled as "hard water shampoo" or hard water treatment, or as chelating shampoos

ColourPop Cosmetics

A website that I have recently fallen in love with is ColourPop cosmetics. They sell a variety of cosmetics including lipstick, eye shadow, eyeliner, highlighters, and many other things. The most amazing part about these products are their affordable price and great quality. The price for a tube of their liquid lipstick is six dollars, compared to the price of name brand liquid lipsticks which usually range from about twenty dollars or above. These lipsticks are extremely long wearing and they will last you for at least six months. They all have cute quirky names on the packaging which makes them even more desirable. I would highly recommend these products to anyone who loves to collect makeup for an affordable price.
