Sleep

Sleep is good for you, but what if you are not getting enough sleep. Based on your age is how many hours of sleep you should get per night. Unlike older kids and teens babies need to sleep for a few hours during the day and about 8 hours of sleep at night. Toddlers need at least 14-15 hours of sleep per day. They take naps during the day and tend to stay up later during the night. Older kids and teenagers need a healthy nights sleep which usually consists of about 8-9 hours of sleep a night. It is better for teens to get a good nights rest so they can concentrate better in school. Sleep helps the brain and muscles function properly. Sleep is characterized by unresponsiveness to the environment and usually is limited to physical mobility. Humans spend roughly one-third of their lives sleeping. Sleep is an active state for mental and physical restoration. Some people have trouble falling asleep and it is called Insomnia, which is the failure to get enough sleep at nigh and makes them not well rested or energized for the next day. Not getting enough sleep can make you feel sick.

Herpes Simplex: Type 1
The annoying bumps you find around your mouth and sometimes the nose. We call those various of names, such as cold sore or fever blisters. They are caused by flare ups of the virus Herpes Simplex type 1. You can get it through kissing, sharing utensils, and drinking from water fountains.  The first sign of them is tingling and soreness around the affected area. They can either start to form one big bubble or a big bubble filled with liquid. They are very sore and you can't get rid of the virus. In a survey 8 out of every 10 people have the Herpes Simplex virus. There is no cure for or vaccine for herpes, and once you have it, it is likely to come back. In some cases people may have one outbreak and then won’t have another one outbreak again.Between outbreaks, the virus hides out inside your nerve cells, so it's never completely cured. The best way to help heal and decrease the amount of outbreaks is lemon balm, drying out the cold sore, and also keeping it dry. https://www.google.com/search?q=cold+sore&biw=1366&bih=673&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMIkfu2wOu2yAIVh56ACh1G0QGh#imgrc=CT0oKJud_FZH3M%3A

How Schools Could Use Social Media

Schools can put announcements and discussions on sites like Twitter. Students can e-mail their teachers and ask questions about their homework that they may not understand. Students can use quizlet.com to make flashcards and share with other students for tests. Schools can make a school website to keep students updated on school closings, sports games, etc. Teachers can create a Facebook page to post homework and class assignments on so the students and even their parents are aware of what is going on in the classroom.

Students can post their class projects on Pinterest so their teachers can see that they did them and they can see how to improve them by their peers. The teachers can give students a quiz question and have them tweet their answers. The teachers can also have the students type a lesson summary in 140 characters or less on Twitter. Having students blog in class is a great way to improve their writing skills. Teachers can give out writing assignments in blogger.

There can be an essay writing competition between different English classes on blogger and the best essay can be put on the school's website. The students will feel motivated and start their own blogs after the competition.

Phones In School

Having phones in school for students is a gateway to more freedom and a good way to keep away boredom during you free time. As well as this, phones can be a bad thing as students abuse their privileges and by doing so it can cause a distraction in class.

Many teachers do not approve of the new phone rule, although very few have voiced their opinion to an administrator. Even though they haven't voiced it to the people who made the rule they rather decide to complain to the students who show complete bias towards the new phone policy.

With the new phone policy you can definitely tell that the administrative staff were looking for a way to please the students like never before, and what better way to do so. Although there is a conflict between students and teachers involving this policy it will not be changed for the foreseeable future, which pleases the whole student body.

Windows 10 review for the first time...

Windows 10 Review
By: Johnathan Smith

The experience which looks to combine windows 8 and windows 7 to create a simple operating system, Windows 10. A sleek and slim design that makes a lot of profit since sliced bread was first made. Microsoft removed the start screen and downgraded back to the windows xp/vista/7 version. The addition of multi-desktop "snapping" from desktop to desktop with a maximum of 10 and still have enough power to look at Facebook, Instagram, etc. It's fluid graphics and forward-looking windows logo in the background makes it more desirable to the human eye. Cortona, the windows version of Siri, emulates the power of apple's siri system but is questionable on who made what first. The overall design to make a better system is a war making question, "Which is better, Windows or Macintosh?" Windows 10's overall features are exciting including many of the games, apps, and everything else of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. Working with it is an ease of weight off your shoulders when it comes to the multiple desktop technology that makes windows stand out from the crowd that was made just recently. All Microsoft windows software is an excellent and simple from a wide range to teenagers to seniors to use with ease.

SVHS Fall Baseball

Fall baseball at Spring Valley is coming along pretty rough. Fall baseball allows anyone who wants to come out and practice and play with the team. Most schools have already played several games and have had over 20 plus practices while Spring Valley has had at most 7.

We all know that Spring Valley isn't known for their incredible baseball team. The most attendance a baseball game gets here at Spring Valley consists of the players' parents, which ranges from around 10 to 15 people in total.

Most teams have played numerous games and have had several practices. Their coaches care about making their players better while coaches at Spring Valley we sit and watch the competition do their thing. They keep getting better while we cheer from the dugout. The teams in our conference are very good baseball teams and most have great coaches who sit and think about how they can make their players better. Spring Valley has great coaches but they need to sit and talk about plans on how they can get their baseball team to the finals!
The Spring Valley High School Art Club and Spanish Honors Society will be hosting The Haunted Hallway this year.  The Haunted Hallway will be October 17 ,2015 at Spring Valley High School. It will last from 6:30-12:00. marching band

The Spring Valley Marching Timberwolves will be competing in the Marshall battle of the bands competition on October 17th. They will be competing in class A against Cabell Midland, Hurricane, Point Pleasant, Beaver Creek, South Charleston, Winfield, and Huntington High. Marshall's battle of the bands consists of many marching bands from around the Tri-State area. The next two parades the marching band will participate in are the MU homecoming parade in downtown Huntington and the Autumnfest parade in CK.

Last year's MU competition was rainy, cold, and the band got runners up. The color guard got 2nd place in their division. The band in general did very well. It was a good get together with the Spring valley marching band alumni. The only grand champs the band won last year was at the Point Pleasant competition, but got runners up the rest of the year. So come support you marching Timberwolves at the MU battle of the bands.

If you had one last day, how would you spend it?

If you knew that today was your last day alive, how would you spend it? Would you do whatever you wanted to do or would you spend that little bit of time with your family and friends? How would everyone else react when you told them today was your last day? How would you react? Everyone is different on what they would want to do, but would they really stick to that when the time comes?
If I knew for sure that I was getting close to my last day, I would already have everything planned. The whole week before, I would do things by myself that I enjoy doing, such as going shopping, going to eat and going to the softball field. On the last day, I would spend time with my family and friends. I would do things that I know will make my family and friends proud of me.
I would do things such as making breakfast for my friends and family, I would even make sure that I make my family favorite meal so they will think more of it. I would ask for all of my immediate family to come in and I would have a picnic type thing so that everyone can spend as much time with me as they would like. I would definitely make sure I spend more time with my brother, not just because he is my brother, but because he is my best friend. I tell my brother literally everything, and he knows how to cheer me up. After I spend as much time with my brother I could, I would just sit around the house and read my favorite book, "If I Stay," so I would be peaceful with myself before I go. Something else that you might want to remember is, to never take anything for granted, because you might not ever know when your last day will be.

A Letter To My Future Child
Dear Alex,

I hope that you take heed my warnings from this letter. I hope that you never lay in bed crying because of what some guy did to you or anyone else. That you're going to make mistakes and I will be mad about it but not too mad to work it out. You will have so many heartbreaks, but there is always someone who can make a your day better. No matter what you do within reason I will always be proud. Don't make the same mistakes that everyone else makes, but be your own person. Don't let anyone talk you into being something you're not. Don't put to much into a relationship because it more than likely won't last forever, I hate to say that. You never know where I'll be so always make the right choices. Even if you don't make the right choices I will always back you up as long as I know the truth.
You'll be influenced by so many different things throughout your life, but always know that to every action their is an opposite reaction. Every thing you do will be counted for or against you in your life time. Don't lose yourself being something or someone your not. Stay in school, stay in school, and never let anyone bring you down. When you grow up you should still make the right choices because especially then people are always watching to see you make your mistakes. People in high school will either like you or not. It doesn't matter what you do those people will never like you, but the people that do like you hold on to them forever.
You will make bad choices everyone does, but you have to learn from these mistakes to make them lessons. When you leave home to go to college, always know you will always have a place to call home. If you don't want to drive because you thinking driving means leaving, not always you can always come back home.
Sincerely,
Mom
