World's Ugliest Animal!

The winner for the World's Ugliest Animal goes to... the Blobfish. It has been named the official mascot of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society and earns it's title all the way.

The Ugly Animal Preservation Society names the blobfish as its new mascot after a global online vote. The gelatinous fish lives <!-- -->
</br>at depths of up to 1,200 meters off the coast of Australia where it feeds on crabs and lobsters. It's under threat as it often gets caught up in fishing nets... but you wouldn't want to eat it.

It looks like a big, blobby tadpole with a mass of jelly-like flesh. It has loose skin, puffy, a big nose and eyes that stare at you constantly. They grow to about 12 inches and don't get much bigger. They live off the coast of southeastern Australia and Tasmania. Blobfish perfer to lay low, about 2,000 to 4,000 feet on the bottom of the ocean.

Although, these fish are very ugly out of water they don't look like that while in the water. They actually look like a normal fish in water but when taken out the pressure of the air and atmosphere changes its appearance to deflate basically. The blobfish lives very deep in the ocean, so deep that our bodies could not function properly. They're jelly-fish skin helps them to be able to survive that deep when most animals can't. Underwater this is what they look like:

Blobfish eat sea urchins and mollusks. These fish are rarely seen by humans because of how deep they are, but when they're seen loads of pictures are taken for how funny they look. You would think nothing would bother these fish but Sharks love to munch on these critters. The blobfish are facing extinction due to deep sea fishing :(
