The Riverfront Skate Park
Skateboarders as a whole aren't the most well known kind of people. People stereotype skaters as hateful, angry, and destructive people, so not many people want skaters to skate anywhere near them. They are afraid that the skaters ware going to break something or graffiti something when they aren't like that at all. Skaters just want to skate, nothing more nothing less. With skateboarding dying in this area the Tony Hawk Foundation came to the city of Huntington and set up a fund raiser and competition with the winner getting a thousand dollars donated to the park in their name. The competition brought hundreds of skaters from around the tri-state area to come and skate with everyone. Beginners and pro alike came done just to hang out and skate to help give us the skate park we deserve. After a year of building, the Riverfront skate park was finally built by skaters, for skaters. They actually gave us the stuff we wanted to skate like stairs, ramps, rails, and ledges. They are still adding stuff to this day because they want to keep the skate scene alive. After all, this is our park to skate.
